Coat — Short, straight, hard weatherproof double coat lying close to the body; low maintenance.

Recognised colours — Rich fawn to mahogany with a black mask and black-tipped hairs (overlay); small white on chest/toes allowed.

Intense, intelligent, driven and intensely loyal. The premier police and military working dog — focused, energetic and demanding.

Trainability — Exceptional — supremely trainable and work-driven; needs an experienced handler and a genuine job.

Grooming — Low. Weekly brushing; more during seasonal shedding.

Good with — Best with very experienced, active owners; powerful drive and protectiveness require expert handling and early socialisation.

The short coat copes well with Indian heat; exercise in cool hours. Demands hours of daily physical and mental work.

Health notes — Hip/elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, eye conditions, anaesthesia sensitivity. Generally an extremely fit, healthy breed.
