Origin — England

Coat — Silky, flat, medium-length coat with moderate feathering on the ears, chest, legs and belly.

Recognised colours — Solid (black, red/golden, liver), and parti-colours/roans (blue roan, orange roan, liver roan, tricolour).

Merry, affectionate, gentle and busy. A happy, people-loving gun dog with a famously wagging tail.

Trainability — High — bright, willing and responsive to positive training.

Grooming — Moderate–high. Regular brushing plus trimming every 8–10 weeks; clean the long ears often.

Good with — Excellent with children, families and other pets. A sociable, biddable companion.

Moderate heat tolerance; dry the feathered coat after monsoon walks and keep ears dry to prevent infection.

Health notes — Ear infections, eye conditions (PRA, cataracts), hip dysplasia, familial nephropathy, autoimmune disease.
