Origin — England

Coat — Short, coarse, dense and close-lying single coat; very low maintenance.

Recognised colours — Fawn, apricot, or brindle — always with a black mask, ears and nose.

Calm, dignified, gentle and devoted. A massive, good-natured gentle giant — placid, patient and deeply loyal, with a natural guarding presence.

Trainability — Moderate — intelligent but stubborn; gentle, consistent training from puppyhood is essential given the eventual size.

Grooming — Low. Weekly wipe-down; clean facial folds.

Good with — A loving, tolerant family guardian, gentle with children; its sheer size demands calm, responsible management.

Heavy build with some muzzle shortening — heat-sensitive. Keep cool, indoors and AC in Indian summers; exercise gently and only in cool hours.

Health notes — Short lifespan; hip/elbow dysplasia, bloat (gastric torsion), cardiac disease, cancer, eye conditions (entropion), cruciate injury.
