Origin — England

Coat — Dense double coat in smooth, rough or broken varieties; weatherproof and harsh to the touch.

Recognised colours — Predominantly white with black, tan or tri-colour (black-and-tan) markings.

Bold, energetic, fearless and highly intelligent. A true working terrier — tenacious, vocal and full of drive.

Trainability — High intelligence but strong hunting instinct and independence demand experienced, consistent handling.

Grooming — Low. Weekly brushing; rough coats may need occasional hand-stripping.

Good with — Best with active families and older children; high prey drive means caution around small pets.

Robust and heat-tolerant; the short coat copes well with Indian weather. Needs lots of exercise to avoid boredom.

Health notes — Patellar luxation, lens luxation, deafness, Legg-Calvé-Perthes. A genetically hardy, long-lived breed.
