Origin — Italy

Coat — Short, dense, fine single coat over famously profuse, loose, wrinkled skin and heavy dewlaps.

Recognised colours — Grey (blue), black, mahogany, and tawny; brindling permitted; small white patches allowed.

Calm, steady, devoted and watchful. An ancient Italian guardian — placid and loyal with family, imposing and protective with strangers.

Trainability — Moderate — intelligent but stubborn and independent; needs an experienced, confident owner and early socialisation.

Grooming — Moderate. Weekly brushing; the deep wrinkles and folds must be cleaned and dried regularly to prevent dermatitis.

Good with — A devoted family guardian; calm with its own people but its size, drool and protectiveness demand responsible, experienced ownership.

Heavy build plus profuse folds — heat-sensitive and prone to skin-fold issues in humidity. Keep cool, AC, and clean/dry the folds diligently in India.
