Origin & Coat

Origin — Canada (Newfoundland)

Coat — Heavy, dense, water-resistant double coat, flat and slightly oily, with a soft undercoat; profuse feathering. A natural water-rescue dog.

Recognised colours — Black, brown, grey, and black-and-white (the Landseer pattern).

Temperament

Gentle, sweet-tempered, patient and devoted — the legendary 'nanny dog' and gentle giant. Calm, sociable and famously fond of water.

Care & Training

Trainability — High — intelligent, willing and eager to please; responds beautifully to gentle, positive training.

Grooming — High. Brush several times weekly; heavy seasonal shedding; dry thoroughly after water/monsoon.

Good with — Outstanding with children, families and other pets. One of the gentlest, most patient family giants.
