Origin — England

Coat — Profuse, shaggy, harsh-textured double coat with a waterproof undercoat; the famous all-over 'bobtail' shag, often covering the eyes.

Recognised colours — Grey, grizzle, blue, or blue merle — with or without white markings.

Gentle, friendly, intelligent and adaptable. A bouncy, affectionate, easy-going herder with a clownish, devoted nature.

Trainability — High — intelligent and willing, with an independent herding streak; positive, consistent training works.

Grooming — Very high. The heavy shaggy coat needs frequent thorough brushing to prevent severe matting; many owners keep a short 'pet clip'.

Good with — Excellent with children, families and other pets. A loving, playful family companion.

The profuse coat is a major heat challenge in India; a practical short clip plus AC, shade and cool-hour exercise are strongly advised.

Health notes — Hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, eye conditions (cataracts, PRA), bloat, cerebellar ataxia, deafness.
