Origin — Tamil Nadu, India (Rajapalayam, Virudhunagar district)

Coat — Short, fine, dense, close single coat; minimal grooming. A regal, elegant appearance.

Recognised colours — Classically milk-white (with a pink nose and golden eyes); also seen in fawn, brown, and spotted varieties.

Dignified, brave, loyal and intensely protective. A royal Tamil hound once kept by the Nayakar dynasty — devoted to its family, aloof and watchful with strangers.

Trainability — Moderate — intelligent and sensitive but independent and strong-willed; gentle, respectful, consistent handling and early socialisation needed.

Grooming — Very low. Occasional wipe-down; white-coated dogs need sun protection against sunburn.

Good with — Best with its own family and spacious, active homes; a one-family guardian, reserved with outsiders, with a strong prey drive.

A native Tamil Nadu breed superbly adapted to Indian heat — hardy and ideally climate-suited; white dogs simply need shade against sunburn.

Health notes — Very hardy with few hereditary issues, though white coats carry some risk of deafness and skin sun-sensitivity — choose carefully when sourcing.
